Note
As in the poem by James Joyce carrying the same title, this piece refers to the acoustical and semantic effect of water when interacting with different objects.
The driving force of the piece is the beatings created when the player plays on two similar glasses while one is being filled with water. The water itself creates here a counterpoint of the modifying pitch of the glass and the "noise" created while it's being poured. The acoustical implications of the water are being the source of the sound fantasy that initiates the rest of the piece - sounds of big waves and little drops are juxtaposed and contrasted.
